Witness History in the Making (posted 3-20-2008)

Our ancestor Michael Korn lived at the time of the ratification of the Bill of Rights. As a pioneer, he believed in and exercised the right to keep and bear arms, as shown by the sale of a rifle, "pistole", and gun at his 1824 estate sale. The pistol reveals that he believed in the natural right of self-preservation. Ever since the Bill of Rights was written, there has been very little Second Amendment jurisprudence. In this vacuum, lies aimed at negating these rights have been cooked up and widely circulated. For example, one widespread lie is the Second Amendment is limited to bearing arms for the "common defense", but the U.S. Senate voted that limitation down in 1789. Fortunately for our cherished Bill of Rights, lies don't go over very well at the Supreme Court these days. To experience history in the making, where our Supreme Court Justices recently refuted these lies, listen to or read the transcript of the oral arguement from the Second Amendment case that was heard before the Supreme Court on March 18, 2008. For follow-up reading, see the Merits and Amicus Briefs, and judge the case for yourself.

Triangular lath suggests an early house construction date (posted 7-28-2007, revised 7-29-2007)

The discovery of triangular lath on the house on the Michael Korns, Sr. homestead suggests an early construction date. The photograph also reveals more reciprocating sawmill marks on core structural lumber. The photograph shows triangular lath and crude plaster on one wall, and sawn lath and more modern plaster on another wall of the same room, which suggests that part of the plaster was replaced during a remodeling job well after the house was originally built. Reasearch on plaster construction suggests that the triangular lath was placed too close together to assure mechanical interlocking with the plaster, and much of it had to be replaced at a later date.

Reciprocating saw marks found on lumber from the house on the Michael Korns, Sr. farm (posted 7-17-2007, revised 7-29-2007)

The Michael Korns, Sr. Farm Photo Index web page has a number of new pictures, including pictures that prove that the house was built during the age of the reciprocating saw mill. Most of the previous farm and house-related pictures have been replaced with new, higher quality scans for improved clarity.
