These circa 2003 photos show the shared tombstone of Edmund, Annie and Polly Korns, children of Jacob Korns and his wife Elizabeth (Biesicker) Korns. The stone is in the small Rivers Cemetery in Somerset County, PA. Until recently, this stone was something of a local mystery. The local lore (passed from Lester Korns to W. Korns to L. Dietle) was that the parents "J & E" were discouraged by the deaths of three children, and left Somerset County to move west. We recently learned that the parents are buried in the Korns Cemetery in Tama County, Iowa, and have a memorial stone to the children there. This cemetery is on the diamond-shaped property that once belonged to Jacob Reiber, the father of Elizabeth, the wife of Daniel Korns, Sr. The diamond-shaped property straddles the modern-day (2009) Larimer/Southampton township border. According to the Korns book, Jacob Korns (father of the children) was the oldest son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Reiber) Korns, and was born in Southampton Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania on February 22, 1817.
