Ella Allene Korns was a daughter of Allen and Gladys (Bittner) Korns of Southampton Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. This photo of Allen and his daughter Ella Allene was taken when Ella Allene was 11 months old. They are posing in front of the barn on the Allen & Gladys Korns farm that was built in 1925 and burned down in 1942. According to the Genealogy notebook of Gladys Korns, Ella Allene was born on August 3, 1939 and died on September 22, 1940. My mother Estalene (Korns) Dietle told me that her sister Ella Allene died from scalding after she pulled a pot of boiling water down upon herself from the kitchen stove.
Ella Allene was one of two daughters of Allen & Gladys Korns who died young. The other was Annalee Ada Korns who was born July 31, 1941 and died November 16, 1941. It must have been a tremendous shock to lose two children and a barn in such a short period of time.
