John Harvey Korns was a son of John Wilson "Wilse" Korns, and before his untimely death in an underground coal mine, he farmed the home place with his brother Allen Lester Korns. Page 84 (Chapter III) of the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania" states, "John Harvey, married Kathryn Martz. Children: John, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth. John Harvey d. Dec. 29, 1930, and Kathryn remarried to John Kerr, one son, Richard Earl." John is buried at the Cook Cemetery, where many Korns family members are buried. The following obituary is from the January 8, 1931 issue of the "Meyersdale Republican" newspaper:

The following photo of Katheryn (Martz) Korns, wife of John Harvey Korns, is reproduced from volume two of the 2007 book "A Look At Southampton Township Pennsylvania The Way It Used To Be!" with permission of Mona Huffman. According to the book, John was killed under a fall of rock in a coal mine. That is also the tradition I heard from a grandson of Allen Lester Korns.
