Walnut Lane

The video below, which was taken on December 2, 2023, shows a section of the Somerset County, Pennsylvania road that is celebrated in the 2026 bluegrass song "Walnut Lane." The video was taken somewhere around 50 years after the road was first blacktopped. In the mid-1950s timeframe when I lived along Walnut Lane it was an un-named, primative, rocky and very bumpy one-lane dirt road.

The video begins where I first got the idea to record the drive, and ends when I reach the farm that once belonged to my maternal grandparents Allen and Gladys Korns.

The following photo, which was taken in the mid-1960s, shows a relatively smooth section the road that is now known as Walnut Lane. The road is located between my little sister Dana in the foreground and the fence posts that are visible behind her.

The following image is frame grab from the video above that I modified with AI to show what I remember the road looking like in the 1950s, long before it was blacktopped. Click here for a larger version of the image.
