Farm of Peter D., Harvey, and Elbert Miller

The following 1993 photo of the farm of Harvey Miller is reproduced in black & white in Appendix E of the 1996 book "Descendants of Johann Adam Dietel..." Denise McCurdy reports that the farm had been owned by Harvey's grandparents Peter D. and Mariah (Harden) Miller, and was later owned by Harvey's son Elbert Miller and Elbert's wife Hilda (Drees) Miller. The farm is located near the village of Pocahontas in Greenville Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The location of the farmhouse is 39.73807221, -78.95176967.

The original survey for the property the farm is situated on was performed for Henry Wert on June 10, 1785 (Survey Book D6 Page 254). The survey includes the statement, "Situated on the head Waters of Piney Run Flaugherty’s Creek adjoining the Turkeyfoot Road leading from Fort Cumberland to Pittsburgh about three quarters of a Mile from the Provencial Line in Brothers Valley Township Bedford County and Surveyed the 10th day of June 1785, in Pursuance of a Warrant dated the 30th day of May 1785".

The following image is taken from the Greenville Township map in the 1876 "County Atlas of Somerset Pennsylvania". It shows two residences for P. D. Miller. The residence on the right is at the farmstead shown in the photo above. The residence on the left was along a now-abandoned portion of the Turkey Foot Road.
