This 19th century rifle cap box blank was one of several that were found in a bucket of old Lepley gunsmithing hardware at the Alonzo Lepley estate auction that was held on his Southampton Township, Somerset County, PA farm in the 1970's. The photos show front and rear views of the cap box. It is 4.228" long and made from non-ferrous material. I believe that it is of the type available to the gunsmithing trade through the mail, late in the percussion era. Two older photos follow below.
