These images show the petition of Jacob Knuff for a tavern license "for lodging and accomodation of strangers and travellers" (sic) which was granted on May 10, 1845. It is signed by many citizens of Southampton Township, Somerset County, PA including (the best I can decipher them) Jonathan Boyer, Ely Kennel, C. Witt, George Cook, Solomon Korns, John ____, John Geiger, Valentine Lepley, William Hicks, G. Cook, Robert _____, Jeremiah Wingert, Philip Dom, Dauniel Gaumer, John Baker, Levi Long, John Kennel, George Kennel, Benjamin Baker, and George Albright. (Let me know if you read the names differently.) For information on Solomon Korns, see pages 87 & 88 of the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania". For information on Valentine Lepley, see pages 101, 102 and 155 of the same book.
