Specifically, the location appears to be just east of the barn, where the road to the upper fields begins up the hill. The horse Ralph is riding appears to be wearing blinders, which minimize peripheral vision to reduce the chances of the horse being startled. According to Ralph, his father Irvin farmed with horses until 1961, when he bought a tractor.
