The 1794 resurvey document that is included below was provided by Don Hammon. It shows how and why Samuel Wilhelm’s property was called “Dry Level” in an 1861 document .
Don found the resurvey document when he was doing research to try to find out when Frederick Rigert owned what later came to be called the “Sam Blank Stone House”. Don reports that lots 3367 and 3368, as well as part of 4074, were purchased in 1801 by Frederick Rigert from John Arnold (the house is on lot 3367). Don has not yet determined how John Arnold got the property. He has not found a deed transferring this property to ELias Majors, but he did find evidence that Majors transferred property to Anthony Arnold. Click here to see evidence from the Land Office Military Lots Ledger that indicates that Anthony was John’s father. This makes it likely that John inherited the property.
A title search published by the Maryland State Archives indicates that Samuel Wilhelm bought the property from Fredrick Rigert in 1828, and Samuel Blank purchased it from the heirs of Samuel Wilhelm in 1886. Don has not yet found the record of the 1828 sale from Frederick Rigert to Samuel Wilhelm.
