This photo, which is from the Michael Kraus Collection at the U. S. Military History Institute, was provided to Korns.org in 2009 by Robert Osborne of Tempe, Arizona. The individual in the photo is Samuel H. Cleeland, son of William Cleeland and Margaret Hannah[1]. He was a private in Company C, 100th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and a first cousin of Arthur K. and William Morrison Cleeland. Robert reports that Samuel was quite young when he was killed in the Civil War.
Robert has researched Samuel and his cousins using sources such as Samuel P. Bates' "History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, Vol. 3" and from the Pennsylvania State Archives, and provided the following summary "Samuel H.
