New Castle News, New Castle, Pennsylvania, October 15, 1908:

Dr. Arthur Kelty, 40 years a practicing homeopathic physician in Youngstown, died of heart trouble in Xenia last Friday, says a Youngstown exchange.  He had just moved to Xenia a few days before, after giving up a plan to dwell in the state soldiers' home.  He was ill when he left Youngstown, though his condition was not considered serious and gave no case to worry.

The news of Dr. Kelty's death will be received with regret by a wide circle of acquaintances here, for few men were better known than he.  He began practicing in Youngstown soon after the Civil War.  His offices in Boardman and Phelps Streets, were always filled and they were familiar places to all who passed them for so many years.  He was known to all the old soldiers and his circle of acquaintances was extended by his being the champion chess player of the city.

Dr. Kelty was born in Mt. Jackson, Lawrence County, Pa., 72 years ago, and as a young man learned the trade of millwright.  He had studied medicine before the Civil War, however, and served in the war as a physician as well as a soldier.  He was a good friend of Governor David Tod and assisted in raising troops in this part of Ohio.  One of his sons he later named in honor of the war governor.  His home in Youngstown was at 601 Hilker Street.  About eight years ago he left the city to take up his residence in New Wilmington, returned, however, in 1907, and had just moved to Xenia when overtaken by death.  He had not been ill for more than four or five days; for many years previous to his last illness he was not known to have a day's illness.  Mrs. Kelty, his wife, may now return to Youngstown.  A son, Tod, lives here now.  A sister Miss Nell Kelty, now of New York, will be remembered as a teacher in the Wood Street and Elm Street Schools for 16 or 20 years.  Dr. Kelty was buried in Xenia last Friday.

Arthur Kelty filed for an invalid pension March 30, 1891.  His application # is 1008453 and certificate # 868163. Ohio is the state from which filed. His application shows he was in Company B of 19th Ohio Infantry. His widow Loretta also received a pension.
