The following 15-second video was taken inside the home of Victor "Vic" and Helen Marburger of Jackson Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. They are pictured, along with their sons John and Bob. I'm the little kid in the video. The occasion is me getting my first puppy from them -- a Border Collie we named named Sputnik.
The video is from 1958 or late 1957. The Russian Sputnik satellite was launched on October 4, 1957 (six weeks after I turned four years old), and was big news around the world. I have a clear memory of watching the rocket booster in orbit one night while standing between Victor "Vic" Marburger’s garage and milk house with my father and mother and members of the Marburger family. The booster fell out of orbit on January 4, 1958.
