As shown below, page 264 of the 1876 book "A Concise History of the Iron Manufacture of the American Colonies up to the Revolution and of Pennsylvania Until the Present Time" indicates that the iron furnace at Wellersburg, Pennsylvania was built in 1856. The book also states, "In 1856 the Wellersburg and Somerset furnaces made 1447 tons of pig iron..."
