How William L. Baer was killed

Eber Cockley's three-page "Baer Note" states, "William L. Baer, born March 30, 1813, was accidentally killed Jan. 30, 1877, married Sally Deal on Oct. 6, 1833." The following excerpt from the February 7, 1877 issue of the "Somerset Herald" newspaper describes the circumstances of his death. I wonder if the impact that broke the tongue of the sled also ejected William L. Baer from the sled.
