Smokestack at Locust Grove, Maryland

The 2009 photos below document a smokestack in Locust Grove, beside the "Narrows" near Cumberland, Maryland. The photos are included here because not many people who see the smokestack knows what it was for.

Mike McKenzie, who took the photos, did a little research and found a copy of a 1910 plat map that identifies the site as having been the "Maryland Wood Fiber Plaster and Supply Company". The plat also shows a small spring house along the base of Wills Mountain; a photo of that is also included. The photo that was shot form a bridge was from the Cumberland side of the Western Maryland Bridge, facing Wills Mountain.
