Margaret Peppenbrink property, Cumberland, Maryland

The deed below relates to the widow of the immigrant Peter Peppenbrink (the father of Christian Petenbrink). In regard to this document, on July 11, 2006 Andy Petenbrink wrote "The attached file contains the Margaret Pepenbrink Deed dated August 16 1873. The deed indicates that she was the widow of the later Peter Pepenbrink. The Justice of the Peace certification also states that Margaret Pepenbrink appeared in person on the sixteenth day of August. Thus providing objective evidence that Peter was dead and that she was living on that date." The deed pertains to "all that fourth part of lot Number Sixty Two (62) in Gebharts Addition to the City of Cumberland on Hays street".

The following image, provided courtesy of John DeVault, is the courthouse copy of the survey of Gebhart's addition to Cumberland, Maryland. The red arrow points to Lot No. 62. To me, it appears that the approximate location of Lot 62 is 39.65685514, -78.76550987. At the present time (2024) Hays Street no longer exists, and the names of many other streets have been changed. A portion of Bow Street still remains, and that helped me to determine the approximate location of Lot No. 62.
