Introduction
Edmund L. Korns, Battery D Fifth Artillery
Obituary
Edmund L. Korns was the youngest son of Michael Korns, Jr. and the description of his family begins on page 167 (Chapter XIII) of the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania" that was written by his son Charles Byron Korns. His photograph is included on page 168 of that book.
Page 167 of the aforementioned 1949 book states that Edmund was a "member of Company C, Fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Heavy Artillery". That conflicts with the pages below, which indicate that Edmund L. Korns was a member of Battery D of the Fifth Artillery during the US Civil War. The pages below also describe the Fifth Artillery.

Edmund L. Korns is buried in the Beam German Reformed Church Cemetery in Jenner Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, where his tombstone indicates he died on March 14, 1897. Despite the name discrepancy, I believe the following obituary is for Edmund L. Korns. The obituary was published in the March 17, 1897 issue of the "Somerset Herald" newspaper.
