This photo shows the cap box on a rifle that was formerly owned by the late Mr. Coffey of Tennessee, and is now owned by Michael Rose. It is included here simply because it is a match to two of the rough-cast patch boxes that were found on the Lepley farm, and shows what the rough-cast patch boxes would have looked like if a gunsmith had finished them. It is possible that late in the percussion era, some mail-order outfit sold the rough castings to many different gunsmiths to finish. I don't believe that the similarity between the Coffey patch box and the Lepley patch boxes can be taken as proof-positive that a Lepley made the Coffey rifle.
