The following pages are from the January, 1835 issue of "The Southern Agriculturist". Page 20 includes the following December, 1834 statement from an individual in the port city of Charleston, South Carolina: "Within a few years the flint and hammer lock has in a great measure yielded to the superior excellence of the percussion lock..." This helps to date the transition from flint to percussion gun locks in South Carolina.
