This page documents Joyce's anti-corrosive percussion cap, as publicized by Colonel Peter Hawker in 1824. Joyce, a Soho chemist, developed a priming composition meant to replace highly corrosive oxymuriate-of-potash mixtures. Hawker expanded upon the subject in the 1830 edition of his book "Instructions to Young Sportsmen", noting that the chemist had turned the idea into a commercial product.
