The following excerpt from the 1912 book "Proceedings of the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania" provides an early reference to Powder Mill Run. It is a brief historical note describing an old Westmoreland County land survey corner identified by "the point on Powder-Mill Road where Bill Jones killed the Indian!"
