Harmon Richard, Somerset County, Pennsylvania gunsmith

Introduction: Harmon Richard is known as a Somerset County gunsmith from an 1852 tax record.

1830-1850: I did not find a Harmon or Herman Richard or Richardson in transcripts of the 1830, 1840, or 1850 censuses of Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

1852: According to Kauffman's 1960 book "The Pennsylvania - Kentucky Rifle", Harmon Richard is identified as a gunsmith and single freeman in the 1852 tax roll of Somerset Township. In their 1983 booklet "Gunsmiths and Gunmakers of Bedford and Somerset Counties Pennsylvania 1770-1900" the Whiskers gave the name as Harrison Richard, but switched to the name Harmon Richard in their 1991 and 2017 books.

1870-1880: I did not find a Harmon or Herman Richard or Richardson in transcripts of the 1870 or 1880 censuses of Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
