This is an illustration of a threshing machine from a copy of the 1949 John Deere "Farmers Pocket Ledger" (83rd Annual Edition) that belonged to my grandfather Irvin Henry Dietle. A threshing machine processes crops such as wheat by separating the seeds of the plant from the stalks and husks.
During my Pennsylvania childhood, threshing machines were becoming obsolete, and had already largely been replaced by combines. The only time I ever saw a threshing machine in operation was on the farm of our Mercer County neighbors Victor and Helen Marburger. Lannie Dietle, March 30, 2025.
