The following obituary was provided by a descendant of the deceased who wishes to remain anonymous. It was published in the Tama Star Clipper, Tama, Iowa, March 1894, page 4. The August 1988 Laurel Messenger states that John was born on March 17, 1825, and died March 25, 1894, and married Louise Emerick on August 10, 1849, and goes on to say that after Louise's death, John married Susan Kennel on February 22, 1876.
The obituary reads "John Corns, one of Tama county's oldest settlers, died at his son Ed's., in Butlerville, Sunday. The funeral services were held in the school house Tuesday, Rev. Avery officiating. Interment was in the family burying ground in Highland."
