Gloria Snyder sent the following obituary text to me on April 9, 2024:

Greenville, Elisha Baer, aged 61 yrs., 7 mos. & 17 days. Mr. Baer was born & died in Greenville Twp. He was married June 4, 1855 to Polly, a daughter of Owen Beal, a resident of that twp. They settled down to the joys & sorrows of married life & she proved to him a true & loving helpmate during the more than forty years they lived in loving communion together. During the war of the Rebellion he was drafted into the army, serving about 9 mos. In co. K 171st regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Besides his widow he leaves nine children to mourn his loss. There are three sons, all married; of the six daughters three are married & three single, one of whom lives with Mr. George H. Hocking of this place, the other two at home. The eldest daughter is married to Christian Werner, another to Aug. Sass, the remaining one to William Caton. The eldest son is married to a daughter of Jos. Brown, the second, to Jacob D. Miller’s daughter & the third to Joel Yutzy’s. His remains were laid to rest on Friday in the Greenville cemetery. Among the pall bearers were three veteran comrades who served with him in war & one of these was a member of his company & regiment. The house was crowded with his old friends & neighbors who had learned to love & respect him for his many good qualities of head & heart. He was a true man; a devout member of his church & a citizen without guile. Rev. Johnson, of Salisbury, conducted the funeral services selecting his text from XLVIth Psalm 1st verse. "Life’s work is over; sweet be his rest"
