Wellersburg E.U.B. Church

This early photo postcard shows the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wellersburg, Southampton Township, Somerset County, PA. This is where my grandfather Allen Lester Korns and his wife Gladys attended, and if I recall correctly from childhood, Earl and Lester Korns also attended here. Note that the church was built with two front doors, one for men and one for women. This photo reminds me that when my grandmother had me in church when I was very small, she kept me quiet by letting me listen to the ticking of her wristwatch. According to satellite imagery on the Google online map service, the center of the church was located approximately at 39.7341302436576, -78.85301268350318.

Wellersburg Evangelical United Brethren Church

The above 1800's photo of the Wellersburg Evangelical United Brethren Church was reproduced from volume two of the 2007 book "A Look At Southampton Township Pennsylvania The Way It Used To Be!", with permission of the author. According to the book, the small building at the left of the picture was the Wellersburg jail.

The above photo was taken on November 19, 2018 by Michael McKenzie after a runaway truck completely demolished the church structure. Before this accident, the church structure had been severely damaged by another runaway truck. Before that, there were dramatic wrecks that didn't slide far enough to impact the church structure.
