A schematic map of the southern part of the Turkey Foot Road

Schematic of the Southern part of the Turkey Foot Road

This is a schematic representation of the route of the post-Revolutionary War Turkey Foot Road. The route varied significantly with time. For example, a later route passed through Mount Savage, rather than through Arnold's Settlement. For another example, at one time there was a switchback on the west side of the Allegheny Mountain.

This map is similar to one that was published in the November 2011 issue of the "Laurel Messenger", but corrects an error near Harnedsville. The map in the Laurel Messenger inadvertently shows an alternate route. This version of the map shows the route in the Harnedsville area that appears on post-Revolutionary War surveys, and on the 1818 Melish-Whiteside map.
