The items sold at the December 8th, 1824 public sale of Michael Korn’s personal property (i.e. “goods and chattels rights”) is documented on pages 48-56 of the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania". Page 51 lists "1 Cuting box" and "1 slay box and cutting box" and page 53 lists a “cabage cutig”.
I suspect that at least some of these listings may be in reference to a device similar to that which is shown in the 2008 photo above. This photo shows a contraption that I believe was used for cutting cabbage to make coleslaw and sauerkraut (if anyone thinks differently, let me know). This particular specimen doesn't have anything to do with the Michael Korns, Sr. family; it was merely photographed from my parents' basement as a typical example of such an item.
