Olive Korns Porter

The above image is from the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania " by Charles B. Korns. Olive Alta (Korns) Porter (born Sept. 10, 1872) was the daughter of Jacob Korns of Poweshiek County Iowa. her father Jacob was born in Holmes County, Ohio. Her grandfather was William Korns who was born in Somerset County, Pa., Feb. 25, 1806, the youngest son of Michael and Susannah Korn. The item below is from the the DAC volume 11 lineage book (I need to find out what year).

The information below is from page 313 of the November, 1922 issue of the Daughters of the American Revolution magazine, when Olive was age 50. O.K.P. is safely presumed to be Olive Korns Porter. The item was written when the Baker Hoax was still going strong. Nevertheless, according to the 1917 affidavit of Joseph Korns, there seems to have been a tradition in this branch of the family that Susanna's father was Peter Baker/Boucher. Obviously, Olive was mistaken in at least part of what she wrote, because we know that while many Korns families did move to Ohio, her ancestors Michael & Susanah Korn remained in Somerset County, PA, and are buried near Wellersburg, Southampton Township.
