The pages below indicate that William Korns of Millersville, Ohio, a Sergeant in Company B of the Sixteenth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, died August 21, 1863 at Millersville, Ohio.
Page of the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania" states "WILLIAM KORNS, b. April 2, 1840, d. Sept. 9, 1865. Served in the Civil War and died away from home." That book indicates that he was the son of William Korns of Millersburg, Ohio and his wife Elizabeth (Hoyman) Korns.
While it is possible that there were two soldiers from Millersburg named William Korns who died in the Civil War, these two records may also be about the same individual, with a mix-up in the date and place of death. More research is needed to determine if it was "our" William Korns in the 16th O.V.I.
