Francis R. Korns, Chairman, War Recreation Board

The article below is from the 1920 book "Chronicles of the World War--Welfare Campaigns in Iowa". It relates to campaigns in Iowa to provide entertainment for World War One Soldiers. Page 143 lists Francis R. Korns as the Chairman of the War Recreation Board of Des Moines, Iowa. Surrounding pages describe the work that was done in Des Moines to provide recreation for the soldiers stationed nearby.

According to the 1949 book "The Genealogy of Michael Korns, Sr. of Somerset County Pennsylvania" states “Francis R. Korns, graduated in Law at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, in 1899, and practiced there nine years when he was elected treasurer of the Modern Woodmen for a term of three years, handling thirty million dollars without a loss of a dollar. He was then elected a Director and has that office since. He is also a regent of Drake University. He was born 1873.” If I understand the book correctly, Francis was a son of Joseph Korns and his wife Martha (Moore) Korns, which would make him the grandson of William Korns (the youngest son of Michael Korns, Sr.).
