Probable reciprocating saw marks on house on Michael Korns, Sr. farm, Somerset County, PA.

Possible saw marks on house on Michael Korns, Sr. farm

This photograph shows a horizontal member in the rock filled wall in the house on the Michael Korns, Sr. farm in Southampton Township, Somerset County, PA. This was the first photograph that I found that apparently shows the presence of reciprocating saw marks that would help to date the house (the other photo is proof-positive of a reciprocating saw). The mark on the left is curved, while the mark on the right is straight but angled relative to the flanks of the board. If the lumber had been cut with a circular saw, I would expect that both lines would be parallel curves. These lines are decidely not parallel. The difference in the shape of the marks is believed to possibly be due to the change in velocity of the reciprocating saw blade as nearls the point where its direction of motion reverses, or a change in velocity of the log carriage.
